Let Us Pray, Not Personally Attack

As the story concerning the controversial Eddie Long case, continue to develop, I can't help but think about his wife. I can't help but keep Mrs. Long in my prayers as her family faces these life changing allegations. I have no opinion on whether or not Pastor Long is guilty of the charges. Not really concerned. But what sticks in my mind are his wife and children, who appear to be supporting him through this tough time. As a wife, I can't imagine what she is going through.

As people from left to right, give their opinions about this growing story, there are opposing sides about if his wife should remain or not. So many say, "Well if I were her, I would.." But the bible clearly states that unless your spouse dies or commits adultery, a woman should "Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything" (Eph 5:24). In the face of heartbreak, financial troubles, and other family obstacles, it is a wives' duty to remain by husband's side in everything that he does. This goes for a man as well.

As women of virtue, I believe that it is our job to pray for Mrs. Long and her family, versus constantly critiquing what we think we know. A wife and mother is going through a difficult time right now, and the only words that we should be spreading are verses of prayers. So the next time your girlfriends start the, "If that was me, I would..." conversation, tell them to be in prayer. More importantly, just place yourself in their shoes. How would you feel to be going through a private family matter that has been leaked to the rest of the world ? Regardless of what you may think of her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Long are a husband and wife in crisis. My prayers go out to all of those persons negatively affected by this situation.

"Therefore, judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of hearts" (1Cor 4:5).

In Prayer,

KPA
