In most, if not all of my past blogs I’ve discussed being saved. However, I am ashamed to say that while we have discussed the importance of becoming virtuous, I have yet to create a blog about salvation. Before we take another step on the journey to learning about our virtue, let’s explore the foundation of what it takes to be virtuous. You must be saved. It is impossible to do one without the other. With that being said, “If you died to tomorrow, do you believe that you would go to heaven?”
Salvation is not about being a good person, or if you attend church regularly, or if you’ve been baptized. It means that you accept that you were born a sinner and must be borne again, (John 3:7). It means that you believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and you have accepted Christ in your heart as your Lord and Savior.
At the age of 12-years-old I knew that I wanted to go to heaven. To my understanding, getting baptized was the way to do this. But it was not until two years ago, when I went before my {now pastor} that I learned the truth. My Pastor looked me dead in my face and asked me, “Do you believe if you died tomorrow, that you would go to heaven?” Embarrassed and confused I could not answer the question honestly. I tried to come up with an answer, but I stumbled on my words. The truth is that I did not know. I felt that my wrong doings would in no way get me to heaven. But it was that day that I also learned that baptism would not get me into to heaven. But calling upon the name of GOD would. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). I also learned that being scripturally baptized represents the identification of a saved Christian with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In June 2008, I was spiritually baptized.
I don’t really have much to add tonight other than to urge each and every reader to seek salvation. I pray that every reader of LOV learns more about the word of GOD and accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. If you are unsure, please contact your Pastor, someone whom you now are saved, or me. Getting saved is the single most important thing that you will do in your life. I pose the question once more, “Are you saved?”
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of GOD is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom 6:23).
In Prayer,
KPA
