As I mentioned in a previous blog, I’ve been taking some time off of Facebook. Until recently, I only used the website to showcase and post LOV on Tuesday nights. But the other night I was having a moment and posted a status about my feelings of overwhelm, excitement, and frustration. My status stated, “Before this process is over, I am going to scream!” At the moment, I just needed to vent and my hubby was at work so I had to find another way. But now that I think about it, why on earth did I choose Facebook to vent? No offence to my fellow Facebookers, but I am almost sure that “the book” won’t solve my problems by its biased comments, “like” button, or suggest a friend icons. What I needed to do at that moment was reach the ear of my all-knowing God and ask for his discernment; not spread my feelings on the world-wide-web.
We hear all of the time, “Give it over to God.” Yet, our first source of “ears” is often social networks, our closest girlfriends, our parents, siblings, husbands, pastors, or journals. Ask yourself; why not tell God first? He’s the only real problem-solver. “Fear thou not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of righteousness” (Isa 41:10). HE wants us to confide in Him with all that we have.
In no way do I object to speaking with those closest to us about our issues, because the Bible says I can’t strive to be virtuous without seeking counsel from those who have wisdom from God. “The way of a fool is right in his [or her] own eyes: but he [or she] that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise” (Proverbs 12:15). But we should always seek God first. For example, each and every time I have an issue, I almost always go to my husband first. My hubby and I laugh from time to time because he is a self-proclaimed Mr. Know-it-all. But the first thing that he says when I come to him with a problem is “Did you ask God about it?” And many times, the answer is no. So, today starts the day that I will be more consistent and go to God even before I go to my husband. Because as much as I love that man he can’t heal me like the Lord can.
God without a doubt has the solution to our problems before it ever becomes our problem. If James 1:17 is right (and we that believe know it is) when it says “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning,” then why not seek God and see what His answer is. Seek him first above all things. He’s waiting to hear from you and provide you with a clear understanding.
“Seek ye the kingdom of GOD, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Mat 6:33).
