Prove Your Love

Last week my church held its annual missions conference. Three prospective missionary families are invited to make a presentation about the country they're going to, and a guest speaker preaches on faith promise missions giving. At the close of the conference we, as a church, make individual commitments to give money to support our missions program. We're encouraged to pray and ask God what He would have us to give. We then make a promise to God to give money each week towards missions for one year, until the next conference starts the cycle over again. It's always reiterated that giving to missions is not a commandment, so if we choose not to give we aren't disobeying God. However, giving to missions proves our love for Him and His work. We all know that love is an action word. When you love someone, you do things to show them you love them. If your church has a missions program, I would encourage you to get involved.

Not everyone will be called to serve God in another country, but there are other ways to show God you love Him. Get involved in your church, don't just warm the pew. Check out the different ministries and pray about where God could use you. God has given all of us talents, time, and treasure that we can use for Him. Use your talents by joining the choir if you can sing. Perhaps you're great with kids and can teach or be a helper in a children's Sunday school class. Maybe you're a good leader and can head up or start a new ministry. There are many ways to give of your time. Join the church clean up team, help to work behind the scenes setting up and breaking down for special events, or volunteer whenever help is needed. Anytime you're using your talents you're giving your time as well. Finally, use your treasure for God's honor and glory. We're commanded to tithe ten percent of our increase to the Lord, but it takes more than that to accomplish God's work in the church.

The Bible says in Acts 20:35, "...It is more blessed to give than to receive". Give of your time, talent, and treasure to God and prove your love for Him.

In Christ,
