Who's Your Best Friend?

I've been privileged to have four best friends in my lifetime. The first of these people was my friend Jennifer. We met as young teens and instantly clicked. We had a lot in common and similar personalities. When my family moved I had to say goodbye to Jennifer, but found my second BFF Raven. I guess we clicked because we were so opposite! I was shy, quiet, and looked like the average awkward teenager, complete with acne. She was outgoing, confident, and looked like a contestant on Miss Teen USA. She was the nicest person and still is to this day. The other two people are my husband and my mom. My husband Jonathan and I are celebrating eight years of marriage today and since we said "I do" he's listened to, supported, provided for, and loved me all while making me laugh :-) My mom and I have always had a good relationship, although we've had our moments, and I've come to appreciate that more since I became an adult. She's a wife and mom too, allowing her to give godly advice enhanced by personal experience.

Even though each of these people holds a special place in my heart, there were times when they didn't act like my best friend. Their actions, or lack thereof, disappointed me. Words they've said hurt me. They haven't always responded to me in the way that I needed or wanted them to. The reason for this is simple: they're human. We as humans are not perfect, we make mistakes, and we let our friends and loved ones down. I'm so thankful that at six years old I found Jesus, the perfect best friend. I honestly don't understand how people make it through life without Him. There comes a time in everyone's life when turning to another human being brings no peace to your storm. During those times I've been so grateful for His presence. He is, "...my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust..." (Ps. 18:2). When I don't even have the strength to or know how to pray for my situation I remember that, "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." (Romans 8:26). It comforts me to know He said, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."  (Jer. 29:11).

I'm so glad that Jesus is, "...a friend that sticketh closer than a brother." (Prov. 18:24). He loves me more than my earthly family ever could. Accept Him into your life today and He'll be your best friend too.

In Christ,

  1. Chris,
I just want to say how much I love you and I am so proud of the woman you are coninually becoming in Christ. I remember many years ago you saying you considered me your best friend. Of course, it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.:-)
I am absolutely so thankful to God because He has answered another prayer of mine. I remember telling you and your sisters at one time or another to make Jesus your best friend. I remember telling you all that He is the only one that will never let you down. He alone is perfect.
You know I can go on and on, but I won't.:-) I just want you to know, I love you now, I loved you then, and I'll love you forever.
Continue to keep God first! He will never leave you nor forsake you!
