As I sit with my husband on the couch in our family room, surrounded by 4 children all under 4 years of age, “Winnie the Pooh,” is the main attraction. Yes, today is Valentine’s Day and we are spending the afternoon surrounded by toy cars, colorful blocks, baby dolls, and a yellow bear with a too small red t-shirt. This by far is a Valentine’s Day to remember. While many of you may be feeling sorry for us, I am appreciating this day; this moment for what it is.
In addition to having our boys, we are watching our friend’s kids so that they can get some husband and wife time. Having two of our own, we understand the importance of mommy and daddy time, and we are happy to help. Not to mention, as I look over to my husband who’s holding a sleepy 15-month-old when he looks as he might fall asleep himself, I feel abundantly blessed. I’ve got the best Valentine that only God can create. I’ve said it many times before, but we celebrate Valentine’s everyday in the Alston home. Today is just another wonderful opportunity for us to exhibit our love to one another.
Even though the day is coming to a close, I would just like to wish all of my Lov Readers a very Happy Valentine’s Day. Whether your spouse has showered you with gifts today, your friends, parent’s or children, I pray you took this day as another opportunity to appreciate God’s love, and for you to show God’s love to someone else. Let’s not get caught up in what you didn’t get, who didn’t acknowledge you today, that you didn’t have a significant other, or that you didn’t get that dinner reservation at Ruth’s Chris! At the end of the day, if no one else showed you love today, God did because he allowed you to breathe. If that’s not a great Valentine’s Day gift, I’m not sure what is.
“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love,” (I John 4:8)
