Trouble Don't Last Always

My family has been dealing with grief for the past couple of years. I lost both of my grandmothers within a year of each other. Shortly before that my husband's mom passed away somewhat unexpectedly. And just last week we got the call that one of his sisters had passed away. I'm a very emotional person, and even though I know death is a part of life, it's been difficult to deal with that reality at times. Thankfully, some verses in the Bible have helped to pull me through low times.

To know that someone feels how I feel and has responded to a situation the same way I did, comforts me.  Knowing that "Jesus wept" in John 11:35 over the death of his friend Lazarus encourages me. Jesus was fully God, yet fully man and therefore able to experience and understand human emotion. When I cry heavy tears thinking about how I'll never again in this life hear Mum's infectious laugh, or Grandma's tranquil voice, He knows and understands. Another verse that comforts me is Psalm 30:5, "...weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning". Isn't it wonderful that, as the old song says, "Trouble don't last always." There's been several times in my life that I didn't see how I would make it through the fog of grief and despair. I felt like I would never smile or laugh again. But with time I did, because life continues on just as the sun always rises in the east and sets in the west. Now when I'm feeling down I think, "Praise the Lord, I won't feel this way forever." The most comforting verse of all to me is found in 1 Thess. 4:17, "Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord". This verse is speaking about the rapture, when Christ returns to take His children from this earth. Some Christians will be alive when this happens and some will already have died. We'll all meet up in the clouds with the Lord to begin the everlasting life He promised in Jn 3:16. My grandmothers both accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, and Praise God I will see them again!

Maybe you're dealing with grief as I am, or perhaps you're simply going through a difficult situation that has you feeling discouraged and despondent. Look to God's word for comfort and remember: trouble don't last always.

In Christ,
