Broken Hearted

Broken Hearted

With a struggling economy, the lost of many jobs, marriages
in turmoil, children leaving home, money scarce, and deaths on the rise, so
many people are suffering from broken hearts. Most of us, if not all of us are looking for a way out. But how do you heal pain and truly mend a broken heart?

I remember a while ago, feeling like I hurt so bad that it
was hard to swallow. It felt as if it started in my feet and rose on up slowly
until it reached my throat, and that’s when treacherous words exploded from my tongue. Is it just me, or have you ever felt this way at some point in your life? Have you ever held in your pain so much that it builds and builds, until finally you can no longer hold it in and you erupt? Uggh it is the worst feeling ever. Not to mention, my heart was heavy, I couldn’t sleep or eat, and I wanted to lie in my bed all day. I’ve equated that feeling to heartbreak. I remember thinking; I have got to get out of this but how?

Unsaved then, I got down on my knees and talked to God.
“Please, take this pain away,” I prayed. I wept because there was nothing more I could say.

Sometimes mental and emotional pain feels more devastating
than physical pain because emotional pain tends to hang around longer. I realize that this is because we allow it to. The loss of your job, your home, and your spouse or loved ones can be devastating, but the way to recover is to focus your energy on the many things that God has provided you; the opportunity to wake each day, your family (that sometimes drives you insane), food on the table, and so much more. Even more so, pray for someone else when you are in despair. Stop focusing on you and focus on someone else. As my Pastor said in Sunday’s morning message, “Your outlook determines your outcome.” Change your outlook to positive things (God’s grace in your life) and I promise you, your circumstances will begin to change. My pastor also provided this
verse, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness,” (Lam 3:22-23).

Remember just because you’re His child, does not mean that
you are exempt from troubled days. How wonderful it is that God does not allow his children to endure pain forever.

Free from a broken heart,
