Conversation: “I am serving the Lord, I work hard everyday, I pay my bills on time, I pay my tithes, but it seems like I am getting no where. But look at ‘Miss. Lisa’ over there. She got a new BMW, just bought a house, got a fine husband, and only goes to church on Easter! Why am I the one suffering?”
Does this sound familiar? Either you have said this to a friend, or it has been said to you. Tonight’s post ask, “Why are we so quick to compare ourselves to others?”
Because of our sinful nature to first think about ourselves, I believe that when we don’t get what we believe we deserve, our next best thing is to take it out on the Lord and then attack someone else. When truthfully, what does your issue have to do with someone else?
Beautifully, artistically, phenomenally, (I could go on forever) God made each of us in His own perfect way. Therefore, what blessings He provides for one person, He may not provide for the next. But what He has provided us is the eternal Gift of salvation.
Not to mention, sometimes what we think we see in other’s people’s lives are not always from God. Just because a person has great new materialistic things, or appears favored by many, does not mean these things are of God. Watch out for wanting to have what others have, and they were not ordered by the Lord.
Furthermore, if someone you know has been blessed by the Lord, according to your standards, be merry! Don’t hate. Plus, you have no idea what they may have had to overcome to get where they are now.
I truly believe that the more we focus on what someone else has, the more blessings we may miss in our own lives. I’ve said it in previous blogs, and I will say it again; FOCUS on what God has done or is doing in your own life. This will take your attention from the negative, and focus on Him, the positive!
“For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” 2 Corinthians 10:12
