Be Consistent

It’s hard to write about something that you yourself struggle with. What am I talking about tonight? Consistency in our Christian lives. Ironically, consistency from others is something that I highly encourage, and expect from other people. However, I am at times so inconsistent in my own life.  I’ve got a lot of nerve.

Don’t you hate when someone tells you that they’re going to do something and be somewhere and they show up sometimes but not others? Or better yet, there is a person in your life who claims to be saved and all out for God, but only acts like it on Sunday mornings? Consistency in our Christian lives is so significant. I say this with truth because it is one of the reasons why I am saved today. I remember my friend Melanie from college was so in love with God. I mean she talked about loving God like she was in love with some guy she met. Initially, I thought, here goes another one all out for God, but let’s see how she acts on a bad day. And guess what, her bad days came and she was still smiling and shouting the name of the Lord. Because of her consistency and beautiful attitude I wanted to be introduced to this kind of love.

While human beings will not always be dependable at times, God is the only real consistent one. Psalm 139 reminds us that God is always with us here on earth, in heaven, and in hell. “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? “If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me,”(Psalm 139: 7-11). When you have the time, please read Psalm 139 in its entirety. Our awesome God is always on time, never misses a deadline, and ALWAYS practices what He preaches.

I can’t express to you how important it is that we all do a better job of being more consistent in our Christian lives. Honestly, some people depend on it. When they see you showing up on time, exercising your dependability, and living by your dedication to the Lord, it brings about trust in God. Could you imagine if God wasn’t consistent? Would you really be able to depend on Him? Saved people trust in God because we know that He will consistently see us through no matter what.

If asked today, how many people would say that you are a consistent Christian?

Praying for consistency in my life,
