Wow. The week of August 22, 2011 will definitely be one to remember; an earthquake and hurricane hit the east coast all in one week. At the exact moment that the quake hit, what were your thoughts? Were you shocked, in disbelief, frightened, or relieved?
I can tell you that Saad and I were in the Sprint Store at Pentagon Rowe, getting our phones serviced. We made small talk between each other as we waited patiently for our phones to be checked. Suddenly, the store walls began to shake, and the ceiling began to rattle. I was sitting behind a desk, and my eyes immediately went to the ceiling. Shocked, I could not take my eyes all of the ceiling. It was if I was stuck. Anxiously, Sprint employees and customers began to question, and comment, “What is that?” (Of course other words were used) and began heading to the exit door. Saad grabbed my hand and said, “Well if it’s our time to go, at least I am with my best friend.” As we prepared to get down under the desk, the shaking stopped.
Now, Saad and I are not one of those people who lit up Facebook and Twitter and message boards about the world coming to an end. We know the story of Jesus’ return and how the Bible says that we, the Church, will be taken up without warning to meet Christ before the great tribulation. We also know that the Bible says Matthew 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. However, after the earthquake, we did discuss how thankful to God that we are saved and have each other and our boys. Whether we died today or tomorrow, we trust whole-heartedly that we will be with our Father in heaven. When the time comes, we will be ready. (Math 24:44)
While earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, and others events may cause deaths and loss of livelihood for so many, events like these also remind us that only God is in control of this life.
If you died tomorrow would you be ready? And do you know where you would go?
I Know for Sure,
